I have just come back from a few days camping in Normandy. The tent was brilliant. Lightweight and small pack size meant it was easy to find a space somewhere for it and as my bike is a sports bike and not a tourer/adventurebike, space is everything.

Build quality is good. It is simple and easy to erect even if you dont use the instructions. Once the inner and the fly are connected together, you can even erect the whole tent in one go and it is easy to have it up and use ready in a just a few minutes. I only have two negative points of the tent. Firstly I found mine to be a bit on the small side. I am not a big person, just average size. With all the gear off the bike and put inside the tent you could only just about sit up to organise yourself and your gear for the next days ride. Then again I did take way too much stuff some of which never got used so maybe its just my lack of camping prowess that hindered my quarters.

The other and this may be the same with all tents and weather dependant, in the mornings, there was a lot of moisture and dew build up on the inside of the fly so when you moved about and the inner touched the fly, you did tend to get some wicking effect going on.

Overal, for the money, its a stonker and I would recomend it to anyone. quick and easy to use and a quiet tent too in a breeze however I would lable it a 2 man tent and not 3.

VANGO BANSHEE 300 , used in IOM , VERY WET BUT NO LEAKS

quick assembly the 300 quite light 2.75kg

Once first build you can leave inner clipped to the outer, 2 poles system easy. I use a small tarp for a porch area though. Nice tent and big enough for all gear

Made an overhanging porch for cooking outside in rain, easy out of some tarp.

Got this for IOM 2012. First of all it never leaked, easy to put up and if you leave the inner attached it is really quick to put up quickly.

Has storage pockets between layers for your boots , works quite well.

Nice and light and if you go for the 300 over 200 have a bit more space for all your gear. Comfortable for 2 COZY ,GREAT FOR ONE

I created a little porch area to cook under during the rain, which really could do with but it is an easy adapt.

Yes its a nice little tent my son and 2 others used them in the PYREENEES FOR 14 days with no problems on Duke Of Edinburgh Expedition, they stored their gear in bivi bags though

I took this small one man tent (with a small porch and side opening) on my 20,000 mile trip as it was light and packed small - on the understanding that I would not be using it that much. Turned out that I only camped for a couple of weeks in total - so that was a good call.

Simple to put up, well made, and just about big enough it served it´s purpose well. If you are planning to camp more, however, go for a larger two man tent. Recommended for ad-hoc use.

I bought this tent for its relatively small pack size and the ease at which I could erect it.
I also like to have plenty of space to spread out.

This tent is a doddle to put up and with lots of space for 2 or a snug 3 people.

Its first use was at the very windy Ullapool Rally where it put up with everything and didn't budge an inch. I had a small leak of water but on investigation found I hadn't pegged the main vent flap properly ! Once sorted not a drop entered again.

Large doors either side make entry and exit easy with space between inner and outer good for a bit of storage.

As you can probably guess I am well pleased with this tent and more than happy to sing it's praises.

Hi everyone, thought id let you know about this tent, currently half price at £45...the Proton 2 is a 2 person, the 3 is a 3 person (thats two people plus clutter in the real world then..)very quick and easy to erect, under ten mins.Very similar to the Hi Gear Nucleus in layout but being six foot one i couldnt quite lie flat in the Nucleus but could in the Proton-they are both the same size but the Nucleus has a larger porch and slightly less living space.Go Outdoors have erected all their tents which are left outdoors all year round so people can see and try them, this gives a good indication of the build quality over time too, these Hi Gear models were holding up well.Well made, spare parts etc are all carried in stock and fairly priced.Unlike cheaper tents these are 3000 head rated, way more waterproof than cheap rubbish and some more expensive tents too.
i like the fact that the porch ground sheet is only sewn to the tent groundsheet widthwise-the porch sides arent sewn on allowing you to have a full floored porchway or half covered when cooking etc.You can have either porchside open allowing for breeze/privacy etc.The porch windows also have moveable curtains which is a nice touch.
Two observations-one is with the flysheet left attached it wont quite fit back into its original bag (like most tents but bloody annoying anyway) and secondly the porch roof flap cant be pitched to stay open, the tents weakest point for me,ive used an old tent rod and guy rope to keep mine up for cooking etc when its raining or for shade, and to make the most of the (generous)space.
Plus points-its well made, very well specced, small enough to go on top of a pannier, light enough (4.8kg)for any bike,is totally waterproof and has some nice features. At this price its a bit of a bargain! Hope some of this is helpful anyway!

Ordered this tent a while back on the internet (available for a very reasonable price) and used it for the first time at the 'Chilterns Rally'.

Pros...
• Price
• Easy and quick to pitch (see update 2)
• Good size extended porch
• Pack size and weight 3.3kg
• Didn't sag at all
• Best storage bag ever

Cons...
• Doesn't have double zips (so you can't make a window out of the door)
• Not as much height as the sister model 'Phad X2' but enough to sit up in
• Can't imagine it being as stable in bad weather as the Phad which is geodesic design
• Didn't like the supplied pegs so changed for some others I had spare

All in all I like it alot, bought just for motorcycling touring which it seems ideal for.

Update: Used this tent again at the 'Boil Rally' and I'm still very much liking it - although rain can puddle into the porch area when you unzip the door.

Update 2: The tent's not pitching as well as it first did. Really have to pull the flysheet a lot tighter on it's adjustment to keep it close(ish) to the ground. Might have to shorten the poles by half an inch.

Poles shortened (2") pitches so much better!

So what can i say about this tent .

For the price I paid well worth the money, but now you can buy this tent on Amazon for £50.

When packed its fairly lightweight, sits across back seat of my Transalp nicely , but you would struggle to get this tent in any of your pannier systems.

The features are quite good, especially like the 3 doors in the porch , so you can open whatever one you like depending on the wind / rain direction. Speaking about rain and wind , so how does this tent stand up to the rough weather of the west coast of Scotland. Well for a tunnel tent I would give it a 8 / 10 for wind resistance, but the poles do bend in if the wind is coming from the side.
But stood up to near hurricane force winds last sept at Ullapool.

As for rain .. The isle of Mull , sept 2010 .. wow My Transalp was washed totally clean , rain so hard it was bouncing back up 2 feet .. But the tent stayed dry inside the inner part of the tent.
The porch was a little wet but mainly from the rain and wind pushing it's way into the floor.
The floor is single piece with folded mud guard , very good when you have a stream running under the tent. And icely designed to lift out and rinse off (mud) before packing away.

All in all , a good tent .

I bought this at an end of season tent sale for £90 but like the previous reviewer I'd be happy to pay double the price as its well made out of good quality ripstop material with alloy poles. I've used it in torrential rain storms and gale force winds in Scotland this year and it coped extremely well with no leaks and remained stable. Plenty of room for two people and all their gear although I'd not want to sleep three in it! But then that the same for most tents size wise.

My only gripe is that the porch areas could be a little larger, unzipping the doors in heavy rain exposes the inner tent slightly.
