Video of the week - Hells Gate Borneo PDF Print E-mail

If it's called Hell's Gate and it happens to be in the jungles of Borneo then I want to ride there. This weeks video shows a bunch of locals heading into the undergrowth on jungle trails and it sure looks like fun to me.

The Hells Gate trail is in the Malaysian sector of Borneo and finishes at Kota Kinabalu within sight of the highest mountain on the Island, Mt Kinabalu. You may recall the national media reporting a few years ago on a group of Brit soldiers who went missing on an expedition to descend the impenetrable Lows Gulley which leads off Mt Kinabalu. Lows Gully is just a couple of valleys over from where these guys are riding – but not somewhere you'd want to go with a bike.

Off Road in Southern Spain PDF Print E-mail

A couple of years back I travelled with a group of motorcycle novices to have a crack at off-road riding in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Southern Spain. The young inexperienced guns took to it well and went on to become Leon Haslam, Cal Crutchlow, James Ellison, Steve Brogan and Mick Extance. The old guy typing this came back with a triple fracture, suspected deep view thrombosis and a wide, wide smile. Here's the feature I wrote for Adventure Travel magazine about our trip to the high Sierra.

Better known for their leather gear Stein first hit the market during the 1980's but are having a bit of  a mini re-launch aimed at the ABR with an all new textile range that includes five jackets and four pants.

Prices range from £79.99 to £109.99 and men, ladies and children sizes and designs will be available. They'll be in the shops from February and we hope to be getting our grubby little paws on a suit to test in the near future.

If the performance matches the spec sheets then the new range looks to be good value. As an example the new Stein STJ505 Touring Jacket (RRP £109.99) comes with the following features.

Five of the strangest foods from around the world PDF Print E-mail

One of the best things about motorcycle touring is riding to different places, seeing different cultures and how they live, checking out their customs and their rituals and of course their local dishes.

If you're like me and you watch some trashy TV you'll have no doubt seen the 'celebrities' in 'I'm a celebrity get me out of here!' eating some nasty bugs and a few goats bollocks (though I'm sure Jordan has put worse in her mouth) and thought 'psh, that's nothing, I could do that'.

Below you'll find five of the strangest and foulest looking foods from around the world, if you find yourself riding through one of these countries while on your adventures, I dare you to try the delicacy and report back.

Following its launch at Motorcycle Live, ABRs will get a chance for another close-up look at Shoei’s brand-new drop-down visor system helmet when it goes on show at the Excel next month, before it’s released on sale to the general public.

The Neotec, Shoei’s first ever drop-down visor helmet, will be exhibited 2-5 February at the MCN Motorcycle Show. The company claims it ‘sets new standards in safety and style’, and reports so far suggest the new design has been well received. “The Neotec helmet is a product of Shoei listening to the needs of their customers,” explains Feridax’s Mark Ingleby.
