By Sam Manicom

"Pre-Africa, my life was as ordinary as life can get, but something wasn't quite right. I had a reasonable education, a job, and I was healthy. I was a shop manager on Jersey; the work was manic and decidedly full time. This didn't leave much freedom to enjoy the money I was earning, and I never managed to see my family in England as often as I ought. The long hours meant that I was beginning to lose touch with friends too, but my sights were set on promotion and a fat pay cheque; they had been for too many years and I'd almost made it. I never had the time to feel properly dissatisfied, but I was beginning to wonder what it was all for. Could I really see myself doing the same thing forever? Then, fears of a recession began to creep into the world of retail and I saw my hard earned future disappearing. This look into the future set me dreaming of the road and taking a close look at my life as a whole. I knew that I wasn't the first person to do this and that encouraged me to think outside the boundaries."

Into Africa was the first Adventure travel book I read after getting into motorbikes. From the first to the last page I couldn't read fast enough. Straight from the off I found the book captured my imagination. I truely felt as if I was along for the ride.

I love the observation of the road and the people Sam meets on the way. Its a great account of the site sounds and smells of the road. As the other review suggest the only bad point about the book is it will have you getting the maps out and jacking your job in.

This is the first book in a series of four by Sam (So far). It tells of the start of his Overlanding lust and the adventures he finds his very human self in.

Sam has gift in his writing and regardless of your love for motorbike Sam leaves you with a story told in such vivid detail that you are not reading his book, you are a pillon on his journey.

I was torn when I began to read, I did not want to put it down but nor did I want it to end. Sam has the abilty to draw you into his world, his emotions and the physical enviroment he writes about becomes your own living memory.

The only warning I would issue is that after reading this book will find yourself looking at your job with a snarl and wondering just how you too can get out there.

All of Sam's works can be found at Amazon and www.sam-manicom.com
