 The infamous 'Road of Bones' in Siberia was built during the Stalin era by inmates of the Sevvostlag Labor Camp (a gulag) and it's name refers to the people who died during the construction and were buried beneath or around the road. More lately it's become known as a must do adventure motorcycling route, especially since Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman adventure in 'Long Way Round'.
And to bring the Road of Bones story bang up to date, Kudu Expeditions have announced a new 3 week expedition for 2010 and 2011 starting in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, and ending at Magadan in the far east of Siberia which will take on the fabled route.
The group of riders can expect tough conditions and will have to contend with many unexpected difficulties along the way. Broken bridges, river crossings, mud and mosquitoes will combine to make this perhaps Kudu's toughest challenge yet. That said, the ride will be fully supported with 4*4's, medics and mechanics. Riders can bring their own bikes or ride one of Kudu's new fleet of Yamaha XT660Z Teneres. The company reckon the tough,single cylinder thumpers are perfect for the kind of challenging terrain and have already proven themselves on Kudu's Trans-Sahara Challenge in March this year. The fist expedition leaves Ulan Bator on 10th July this year and prices start from £2,995 for riders on their own bikes and £4,995 for using Kudu's Yamaha Teneres.
