Motorcycle Trip Reports
Sorry but... For this 5 night trip, at the very last minute I decided not to take a camera so the pics are 'borrowed' from google. I figure I spend half of any trip/ride looking around for what would make a good pic as opposed to just soaking it all up. (I will go back to taking a camera but will try to halve the number of photos taken) Anyhow, last Thursday my wife and I rode to Holyhead on the GS, met up with another couple who were on some Italian diesel contraption, Dukesomethingstrada.....anyhow it went fast, kinda looked OK but pannier overspill in the form of coffee/cafetiere/butter,jam etc had to be lugged about by the old faithful GS....:augie We caught a ferry to Dublin, rode to the 'hostel' (look at the apartments, they are superb ! (www.kingfisherdublin.com) then went into Temple Bar to eat and drink. Dublin is brilliant.!! Next day we rode South in ever better weather to a town called Clonakilty. Lovely and typical Irish town with loads of pubs and eateries...and a mate who lives locally, Rory made one in for a meal with us at the Sujan restaurant/pub. (Pic attached) A week later and the town flooded on Wednesday evening. (Pic attached) Friday night at a very good and bike friendly (like all of Eire to be honest) B and B and we rode West along the SW coast to Killarney via a rather wet and windy 'Molls Gap' (pic attached) Yet another Hostel in Killarney for two nights. Another great evening meal of pizza and beer in an Italian place. Sunday meant a day off travelling between places...so we rode the Ring Of Kerry and then the Ring of Beara for good measure...including the absolutely awesome Healey Pass. So our 'day off' entailed another 150-160 miles of great roads, stunning views..... Yet another lovely meal in a local hostelry accompanied by the odd pint of Murphys...... Monday morning meant we had to get across the south of Ireland to Rosslare for an early ferry on Tuesday. The route took us on deserted well surfaced A roads with wonderful sweeping bends passing through some nice small towns. We arrived at the B and B in Rosslare mid afternoon, went and sussed out the port for the crack of dawn ferry so we didn't screw up and have to wait 12 hours.....and then had a butchers at Wexford. BIG disappointment ! Anyhow, a fruitless search for a decent 'last night blowout restaurant' meant we ambled back to the tiny village where the B and B was...and went into the non descript looking local. Turned out to be ''Egor Someone'' quality and the food was brilliant for the 5th night on the bounce. Early breakfast with the very welcoming and friendly B and B owners and then off for the Stena ferry and 3 1/2 hr crossing to Fishguard. We'd paid a few quid extra for the stena plus and boy was it worth it. No scrotes, complementary this, that and t'other and a really relaxed crossing. We rode through Wales, it is full of the Welsh, we got out the other side in one piece and were soon back in Yorkshire.....aaahhh (I love Whales really, fully paid up member of Greenpeace and all that) Apparently it had rained by us in West Yorkshire, a lot. We seem to have missed it on the Emerald Isle Ireland is brilliant. The people are ALL brilliant. Nothing is too much trouble. It is a huge shame they have been hit hard by the economy crisis. For riding and driving, it is great. Well surfaced roads, well...quiet well surfaced roads with amazing views. If you haven't visited the place, do yourself a favour and head West and cross the Oirish Sea. It is worth it User reviewsAverage user rating from: 1 user(s)The Emerald Isle2 of 3 people found the following review helpful
