bought this bike new in 2008. I have so far done 6,800 miles only. It is garaged and has been regularly serviced. I went for the lowered suspension option as I am not tall but this gave me a chain problem in that when not accelerating the chain slaps against the swinging arm making one hell of a noise....so much so that people turn around to see where the noise is coming from. On returning the bike to BMW Blade Motorrad at Cofton Hackett in Birmingham they initially disbelieved me. When an engineer tried the bike the chain made no noise as the rider was heavier than me so the chain did not bounce so much. Needless to say they did nothing about it, and I got fed up with reporting it. Now the next problem is a failed ECU. This of course came completely out of the blue and left me stranded. £750 later for the repair and of course BMW don't want to know. Certainly the bike is not that young but with only a small amount of miles on the clock you would not expect a failure of this type. Blade Motorrad Cofton Hackett did not even reply to my e-mails. The main BMW office at least replied. They might have helped with some sort of cost if I had been able to get it to my local dealer (Cofton Hackett) which I could not do and would not have done anyway after my first experience of them. Their view was that any significant problem would have occurred during the warranty period. This in fact is incorrect as if you are only riding a very few miles the warranty will be out of date by the time you have done any sort of mileage. To sum up then do not buy a BMW of any description. You pay a premium, do not get better quality products and the after sales service is non-existent.

After some personalizing accessories from the sizable aftermarket, this bike is a keeper. Best all around bike I've ever had, this thing covers a lot of bases.

Very easy to live with, powerful enough for every day use and touring, but could do with a bit more go if fully loaded and 2 up

Standard seat is a must go plank and wind blast above 60ish can be a pain with standard screen, other wise its a cracking bike that I intend to keep for a long time

Tour of Eastern Europe 2012
Bikergran
I rode my F650GS twin almost 4000 miles in just over 3 weeks this year through Eastern Europe via Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Republic, Germany and Holland and it never missed a beat or used a drop of oil! My best buys were the comfort seat I found on ebay,a decent tank bag from Wolfman and excellent goretex waterproof jacket from Hein Gericke! My partner's 1200GS also performed just as wellsmilies/smiley.gif
