A motorcycle travel company is on the lookout for volunteer ABRs to recce a new route through Tibet.

H-C Travel has been running its Roof of the World tour from Kathmandu to Lhasa for the last 10 years and is now planning a new route along the recently opened Silk Road.

Starting in Lhasa, the 18-day tour will head along the Friendship Highway to Everest Base Camp before contunuing west on the Silk Road, past the Tibetan Lakes, to the regional capital of Kashi in western Xinjiang, an ancient crossroads and famous for its bazaar.

“We’re looking for adventurous spirits who are seeking a unique experience and like a challenge,” says HC-Travel's David Grist. “If that’s you, please contact us!”

The tour's itinerary is unfixed and will run a mix of bikes including Royal Enfields, Chinese bikes and possibly KTMs. There will also be less than the usual level of organisation, as this is a 'recce' tour. Prices are expected to be around £3,500-£4,000 per person, plus UK-Beijing return flights. We will be going along this route next year. My partner, Fang Yi and I have started in Cape Town and finishing in Shanghai.
We are currently in Egypt having completed 21,000 kms across the African continent and waiting on a Chinese State Owned shipping company to help us get from Alexandria in Egypt to Mersin in Turkey and then we will tour Europe and then head east. We had planned to ride through Syria but you know how it is.
Fang Yi is currently negotiating with some very helpful Chinese officials about routes and permits. It is possible to cross in certain places without an escort. We both speak Mandarin though and normally live in Shanghai so that does help.
We'll keep you posted on our websites. blog.sina.com.cn/bigbiketrip (Chinese) and www.bigbiketrip.net and www.facebook.com/bigbiketrip
