Organisers are seeking volunteers for a motorcycle relay round the UK to raise money for British troops in Afghanistan. Riders will this September carry a Burgen (standard issue army rucksack) on the 60 legs anticlockwise round the UK.
Vehicle tracking firm Tracker is supporting relay to raise money for British troops in Afghanistan. The ride will take place on 4th and 5th September. It will go anticlockwise around the UK passing through major towns and cities. The ‘Burgen’, which has been taken on a number of tours of duties in Afghanistan and Iraq, will be relayed from biker to biker and members of the public will be able to track its progress online using Tracker software.
The first event of its kind, the aim is to create the biggest motorbike relay in the UK to raise money for injured soldiers or those who have lost loved ones. Andy Whaites, a father of a soldier in the British Armed Forces and the organiser of the event has called on all bikers and biking communities to get involved to make it a success.
Whaites said, “It is an issue close to my heart as my own son has been a soldier in the British Armed Forces for over nine years, and you hear and see the effects of the war firsthand. We already have 300 bikers signed up and are asking anyone who has a motorbike to get involved and make this a monumental weekend.”
